English as a Second Language (ESL)
Students have a variety of needs when it comes to the study of English. For some students, it is essential to work on English fundamentals, while for others, the focus is on academic English and the communication techniques that university study requires, such as essay and report writing, presentations, group discussions. Others need to polish their business English skills in order to jumpstart their professional careers in an international environment.
Graduate Preparation Courses
The Graduate Preparation Courses have been specially designed by Ontario Institute of Technology (OIT) for international students who have completed their baccalaureate degree, or equivalent qualification, and who wish to pursue a Masters degree program at a university in an English-speaking country.
Most students who complete the Graduate Preparation Courses at OIT go on to enroll on a Masters programme at an English-speaking university.
English for Academic Purposes (EAP)
English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program at Ontario Institute of Technology (OIT) is designed to give a strong English language foundation to our students in order to prepare them for their future University Preparation courses.
Our 5 weeks long modules require students to study 8 hours a day, 6 days a week. The components of each module include Listening and Speaking, Grammar Practice (particularly at lower levels), Academic Reading, Academic Writing (Essay Writing at Advanced level) and Research Methods courses at various levels starting from Low Intermediate Level (Level 3) and ending with Advanced Level (Level 5). Also included into the EAP program are IELTS preparation courses.
Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)

- OSSD Grade 10,11 and 12 UP Courses
- 40 Hours of Community Involvement Activities
In accordance with the Curricular Guidelines of the Ontario Ministry of Education, students must earn a total of 30 credits (one for every 110-hour course successfully completed) to obtain an Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
IELTS Preparation Courses
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is an examination for people who plan to emigrate or study overseas. It tests the complete range of language skills that are needed by students and professionals in English-speaking environments. It is an internationally recognised exam that tests English language competence.
Our IELTS Preparation courses will help you:
- Prepare for the IELTS exam
- Practice the type of questions you will face in the examination
- Understand the kind of answers the examiner expects from you
- Teach you the techniques to help improve your score
- Familiarize yourself with the test format and time restrictions
Summer/Winter Camp
OIT offers a two-week ESL Camp to international students in the Summer/Winter of each year with an objective to further cultural exchange, and to provide the international youth an opportunity to learn and understand the society of the Canadian people and to enable them to improve their English Language Proficiency while experiencing the North American Culture and visiting and enjoying the beautiful scenery, the cities and cultural diversity of Canada.
